Newbie to the Bridgestone!!
« on: August 06, 2010, 07:27:35 AM »
Hey everyone.

My name is George from Maine. Well I got home from work and a Blue Bridgestone BS was sitting inmy garage. My father dropped it off, it was given to him from my uncle. We are motorcycle nuts so I was super excited. Well she is ruff, rust, OLD. Well I free'd up the chocke, and thottle cable, put a little gas in the cylinder head, and first kick fired right up!

So I am thinking I would like to restore her, it is a cute bike.

I did have some questions though. Where the heck do I find the VIN? it is single cylinder, I think it is a 90 or 100cc, it is a nice blue, I am thinking 1965 or 1966 version. It does not have blinkers??? is it suppose to?

What type of oil are used in these?

It has oil injection, how do I know if it is working?

I have the oil tank (with site gage) on the side of the bike, and a oil cap on the engine. How much oil goes in this bike, and do I put it in the oil tank, or in the engine, or both?

Where is the best place to get parts for her?

Are these worth anything all original restored?

Thank guys, nice to meet you all. All the info I can get wold be nice, how about a manual I could download to get some maintence info?

Richard

Thanks alot.

I know I sound dumb but what is the difference between the oil tank, and the fill cap on the right side of the engine?
I will go read the link you sent me.
I would like to restore this puppy so I will be in touch about parts, clutch cables, throttle/choke cable, grips, mirror, shifting lever, rubber boots, and more.

How about trying to figure out where my VIN is and the year of the bike? If I can find the VIN then I can figure out the year. Typically I see the VIN on the neck but there is just a silver sticker their, and about 1/4 of the bottom of it is missing (of course)

Was the bike produced without blinkers?

Thanks!
George

The oil tank holds oil for the injection to mix with fuel and lube the crankshaft & piston.  The plug on the engine is for oil for the transmission and clutch.

The VIN is on a tag on the right side of the bike's frame, below the side cover, I believe.  If that's wrong, someone else comment, please.  Here's the link to decode your number: http://bridgestone.skew.org/serial_numbers.html

Thanks a ton.

So I can use 10W-30 Synthetic motor oil in both the oil tank, and in the engine case?

I think my bike is a trail 90 (not a 100% sure) Anyone know if it should have blinkers on it?

Thanks
george

Welcome aboard. If memory serves me correctly the displacement in cc's is cast at the cylinder base on the BS singles. 88cc would be the 90. Does it have an iron cylinder? It its iron its not a 100. You might post a picture. Somebody on this site will recognize your bike.

I would not use the same oil in both the oil tank and the transmission. To do so will be inviting failure! Use a good 2 stroke lube in the oil tank and a 10w-30w in the transmission. Engine oil is not a good lube in a 2 stroke. I have seen failures, because of it's use.
