I'm not sure where to begin?
« on: July 07, 2010, 01:45:05 PM »
Hi all!
I became owner of a 175 and a 350 last year. They were in the family and have sat for a long time. Both turn over. The 350 was running in the mid '80's. I'm not sure why it was parked. Probably because of a newer BMW twin. The 175 has not been run since the 70's. I don't know what it's issues were. It was to be a father/son project that never got done. I also have a stock of parts both new and old. I'm not really sure where to start with either bike. I've worked on some old single dirt bikes (Hodaka and Bultaco) and brought them back to life. But I've never dealt with two cylinders or rotary valve intake. Anybody have a good routine for getting these bikes running? I would like to try that first and then later work on restoration.
This is a great site! I spent some time browsing and really enjoyed some of the pictures. It seems we weren't the only people with a "shop". My father had a shop as well. Started as Bridgestone for a short while. Later it had Rockford stuff and Hodakas. It was a lot of fun back then. I was the only kid in my 3rd grade class with a mini bike. It was a Chibi and then later a Tora. After that I got to ride a Wombat. I never rode a Bridgestone except as a passenger. I'm looking forward to it!

Welcome Pete!

You'll find there are some real helpful folks in this club.  Enjoy the tinkering and restoration.  I'm not the guru to get you going but I'd bet that if those bikes were put away running, you'll be able to get them rolling again with mostly a carb and tank restore.
