reality sets in
« on: May 01, 2010, 06:18:35 PM »
hi all .my name is andrew(coxy) i live in australia . many moons ago my father said to me if i wanted to get my bike licence i would have to buy a old bike and fix it to roadworthy . my first road going motorcycle turned out to be a bs 175 hs .to my fathers disappointment i met a bloke who was a steam train fitter (don mc millan) r.i.p. an absolute legend in motorcycle restoration  and rebuilt the bike. i was young and silly i collected around 5 of them and a couple of 350's and sold the lot for a song around twenty two years ago and kicked myself ever since . at Christmas this year i bought a bs 175 dt i just had to have it paying way to much .after a few months of sourcing parts the resto has started .i knew the bike was bad when i bought it as it sat in a shed in queensland with 35years of high humidity everything is rusty and perished.it also has accident damage which i didnt think was that bad untill i started stripping . the side stand is snapped at 90degree angle broken handle bars and smashed mufflers . i thought the previous owner must have left the stand down taken off and flipped it also heavy damage to tank and gear change arm is welded to shaft. i noticed 2 small dints in header pipes i didnt think anything of that until i removed engine with great difficulty where the rear mounting bolts were bent and the frame brackets broken and welded poorly also the air fins on back of cylinders smashed and bent .everything has been butched threads all stripped screw heads mangled apart from all that its in pretty good condition HA HA . anyway enough rambbling its time to start work .its going long resto project but hopefully very rewarding CHEERS.

Hi Coxy

As you probably have guessed you have my empathy and support with this resto of the 175DT.
It took me 3 years to restore mine with a lot of help from friends etc.
