50 Sport ignition switch
« on: February 10, 2014, 09:30:37 AM »
I need an opinion on my 50 Sport ignition switch. When I bought this bike the left side cover was off and there was a jumper on the ignition wires. The ignition switch looked to be the cleanest part of the bike and it had 2 keys so I was a little curious as to the jumper. The seller didn't know much and the rest of the bike was pretty beat up. I disassembled the bike without ever trying to get it running. I noticed along the way, some of the wires were cut near the switch. Seemed odd, but I didn't really pay much attention at the time.

During reassembly, I bolted the ignition switch onto the bike and now the side cover doesn't fit – the switch seems to be too long. It measures 2 3/4 “ from the bottom of the mounting bracket to the top of the large cylinder. (not including the chrome part that the key goes into)

In addition, the wiring on the switch doesn't seem to match up to the manual. This one has white, brown, gray, black and blue.

I suspect that somewhere along the way, a previous owner got a new Bridgestone switch for a different bike and put it on this bike. When it didn't match up to the existing wiring, he added the jumper.

What is the length of the correct 50 Sport switch and how many wires should it have?
