Tip:  If you scan magazine articles or even many brochures, etc., it improves the photos if you set your scanning software to "descreen".  It makes a significant difference on many print images.

Many of them do, but in a lot of cases, scanning with descreen in effect improves it quite a bit.  When I scanned the Tuning Up for Performance booklet for Scott's web site, the images were pretty poor without descreen.  The same holds true for many of the B/W service manual images.
