Carb Air Pipes - Shape?

My HS has one round and one oval Air Pipe. My first thought was that the left and right were different or that the HS might use the ovals for clearance from the exhaust.

Thought the Parts Manual might list different numbers for the DT and HS but the only reference is to:
6241-8000 Air Pipe
6241-8010 Air Pipe after Serial 16K

Hope someone might shed some light on this.
