Bs-90 electrical questions
« on: March 24, 2020, 09:34:54 AM »
Does anyone know how the rectifier on a bs-90 is supposed to be put together. I also cant seem to find what bulbs the neutral light takes and why is there two wires coming out of the lighting coil. Is there two coils and how do i test them.

I feel bad that no one replied to this, the rear bulb takes 1154's I didn't have any luck finding one at Autozone but they had a 12v battery that had the same plug type and number of filaments in the bulb, it's not as bright though. The rear tail light has two filaments inside the bulb, one is the license plate light and the other is the actual brake light, thats why there are more wires also.
For testing you can just look at t he bulbs, you will see two filaments, if one of them is burnt it will break so you'd only see one.
You could also test by putting the negative lead of a battery to the side of the bulb and the positive to one of the connections on the bottom, then the other.

You posed the question so long ago, you may have figured this all out.

I'm not sure what the question regarding the rectifier is. It bolts to the frame and the two leads connect to the wiring harness, one goes to the battery, the other to the charging coil through the harness.

The instrument light bulbs are identified as T-3ΒΌ, BA9S, or miniature base, instrument bulbs.  The BS90 is a 6volt system. Search online for miniature 6 volt instrument bulbs.  The equivalent 12V is 1893, 44 or 47 bulb for the 12 volt bikes. The differences in the different numbers are different wattage or different glass bulb shape. There are about a 1000 different listings for LED versions of the 12 V bulb, they may work on the 6 volt system, but at reduced brightness.

The 1154 bulbs for the taillight are available in some auto parts stores, or online, you just have to look around. Don't use the 1157 12V bulbs, you don't want a dim taillight or brake light when riding.

Regarding coils, one is the ignition coil and one end connects to the points, the other is the lighting coil. You can find info in the service or technical manuals on this site.

Thanks for responding guys but i have pretty much figured all of this out and the only piece of the electrical system that i needed still was the rectifier and i luckily just found what appears to be a good one on ebay and im hoping when it comes in it works.
