Virtually finished GTR.
« on: March 19, 2015, 05:47:11 PM »
The GTR was brought out of the garage today to take advantage of a lovely spring afternoon to take a few photos of my virtually finished restoration. Still predicted to fall to minus 1C tonight but if the sun shines it can be surprisingly warm.

And if the warm weather continues I'll be setting the carbs up, or trying to as both leaked last time.

Thanks Bert, version 2 is just as good as my first version but the detail can't be seen in the photos posted possibly because of the strong low sun and shadows. Will add more photos later.

Hope our readers have been following the V2 restoration in the gallery, not as detailed as V1 as there is no point in repeating things.

Great resto job Z, that's another one back on the road.
Couple of queries,  I'm well out of touch with m/c tyres these days, which have you used. Will we see the bike (and you, of course) at Stafford later this year.

Brian, I chose Avon tyres for both GTRs (F 3.25 X 19 Speedmaster, R 3.50 X 19 Safety mileage) as they are period for the bike, sadly Bridgestone tyres are not available in that rim size. Colin went for a more modern tyre for knee down riding round the Scottish highlands.
Yes we hope to be at Stafford in October showing the bike.

Lee, the Range Rover Evoque Dynamic (to give it it's full name) was registered in 2012. I bought it after having to abandon my Volvo C30 T5 a few times by the road in snowy conditions, it's not snowed since but it's a pleasure to drive.

Steve, the warmer weather helps mostly I find.

  Z,
Thanks for tyre info, sure I used those back in the day, good to know they are still available, they are period. See you at Stafford, fingers crossed with the judges this time.!!. ;)
I can relate to your 'warmer weather' comment, sign we're getting older I'm afraid although a heated workshop would help in my case.

Colin, Nearly there, what tyres have you used, they do look more rideable, might use those on my everyday rider.

Brian, I have the opposite problem (cooling the workshop). Here in the Southwest evaporative coolers are very effective for all but a couple of months a year (our monsoon). So I may buy a portable unit to use when the mercury indicates >100 deg F. ::)

Sorry, Z but I need the money for the rebuild.  Good luck in the carb. area.  I had trouble with mine too but the forum sure helped a lot.  A great group of guys.  Harry
