1967 BS 175HS Identification help
« on: September 24, 2013, 10:36:50 AM »
I just completed a search of the forum and located my frame number (TA1-26959) and my engine number (TA1-27084) - but I cannot for the life of me locate the Serial number - One posting stated it was located next to the oil tank on the frame near the shock (right hand side) on an aluminum tag..

I don't have anything but a small sticker that has been rubbed away with "JA1" on the end of it - and I don't see anything else around there.. I assume the sticker is NOT the serial number?

Maybe it is missing? If so is there another way to find out the serial number?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated -

On the right side there should be a metal tag on the frame above the oil tank where the shock and frame meet the frame for the seat I'll post a pic of where later tonight. Ether its there or lower near the break lever mounting point. I'll double check on that.

For the 175/200cc models, the frame number is stamped on the side of the headstock, and the engine
number on the transmission case. Both are of the form “TA1-30991”. Here, the last five numbers for
the incremental identification number, and the prefix is the factory model code. The “TA1” prefix was
used for 175cc machines, and “TA2” was used for 200cc machines. Please note, however, that the
very earliest BS200s were built using up the remaining factory stock of frames already stamped for
175cc models (175 and 200 frames are identical). These therefore would have had frame number
prefixes of “TA1” with very out-of-sequence identification numbers

you might have seen the guide already but here's the link again.

here's the pic I said I was going to post.

Crap - nothing.. Must have flew off during the time trials... or just fell off..

I contacted the treasurers office (it has not been registered since 1994) and they told me the serial number is 16R29857 (it was registered to my grandpa) so I wonder if there is a way of getting a new tag for it?

Many of us on here could send you a photo of an original, then you could have someone screen print one. They are aluminum. There are no spares that I'm aware of.  Unless you are going for a showbike restoration, I'd suggest cutting a piece of aluminum stock to size, stamping the serial number on it and riveting it to the frame back by the shock in the original location.
