BS7 Float Needle Needed
« on: June 30, 2011, 02:44:30 PM »
Hello All;

I have a BS7 with a float bowl that runneth over.  All appears well with the float so I assume the needle is leaking.  I cannot find a p/n for the valve, needle or even the carb so any help you could provide (part numbers or sources for these parts, I already tried Richard) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Are you sure the float is at the right height?

I have a brand new carb but its attached to a brand new engine. Only for sale as a pair. I have more BS7 parts but I don't think I have any new float needles.

Thanks

The Bridgestone part number you need is 1660-3010. That is for the float valve assembly including the seat, not just the needle.

Thanks All, but that is the part number I have been using and Richard does not have it in stock.  Does anyone have other source suggestions?

Also, the float is adjusted properly.

I had a similar problem with my RS 200.  I had a float with a pinhole and it would eventually fill-up and open up the needle/seat.  I went out to a very large motorcycle salvage lot that had an entire shed stuffed full of carburators.  The 17 on my 200 was use on other Japanese bikes so I found a few and got em' on the cheap.  You may have to do something like that... it's worth a try anyway.  Just bring your carb and a screwdriver if you find a bike junkyard like that.

As stated in my first post, the float is fine.  It does not leak and is not full.  The needle/seat leaks...

I think he meant to find a similar carb and pull the needle and seat from that. His float problem was just an example.

I did have a look inside the BS7 carb I have. It is a bit of an odd one. I have seen similar needles and seats with the little retainer but I can't remember where.

I do have what appears to be a new seat, unfortunately, the matching needle seems to be missing.  If you want it, PM your address and I'll put it in the mail.

Thanks Reed!

The needle is about 5/8" long (from tip to end of spring-loaded tip that mates up to the float arm) and 1/8" OD.  Is that enough info?
