Title: pistons and rings
Post by: joegrebenc on May 05, 2009, 03:39:19 PM
I want to know if I need to remove my motor to replace the pistons and rings on my 1966 BS DT 175?

It seems that the cylinders will not clear the frame because the studs are to high?

Joe:  Seems like to me you have to loosen motormount plates and tip engine upward to get the cylinders off

Joe, once you have the heads removed, is there room to grab the studs below the threads and thread them out of the case? I don't know if there's any risk in doing that, but if they can be turned out and removed, it would eliminate them as a clearance problem. At that point, maybe the cylinders will clear for removal.

Gary  Good idea to unscrew the studs, instead of taking engine out, just don't snap them off
