Shaker Can?
« on: July 15, 2010, 03:45:20 PM »
For you restoration pros,

Are lacquer and paints in shaker can form sufficient for spraying smaller bike parts.  I may be having a frame powder-coated and body parts painted professionally; however, am interested in clear-coating alloys and using black paint for some of the smaller stuff.  Most shaker can paints I've used in the past looked fine but did not wear very well...  I'm wondering if paint technology has improved since 10-plus years ago.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

It's best to use rattle can engine paint for stuff that can get oil or fuel on it as it will withstand them, where the normal rattle can won't.

Speed Clear from Alsa has a catalyst, so it should hold up.

Note the requirement for a NIOSH mask-that is not something to ignore.  Like any catalyzed paint, it will set up in your lungs permanently.  I have not used this paint, so can't speak from experience on how well it works.

Try the PJI paints they work well and you can get them at most motorcycle shops!
Thanks.
