new rubber gas lines cracking
« on: June 07, 2013, 03:31:41 PM »
I happened to buy a few feet of black rubber gas line from the local harley dealer (since the Honda dealer only had blue ones). I installed them on my sport 90 a couple of years ago and  when taking it out of storage the rubber was cracked at the fuel filter and leaking gas all over the place. The same thing on my GTR 350 which I believe was replaced just a few years ago. I know it gets freezing/thawing in the shed all winter but I would expect the fittings should not make the lines all brittle and cracked! Does anyone have good experience with a quality black gas line that can withstand freezing winters and pushed onto petcocks, carbs and filters without issues and hold up more than a year or two?

I don't think your gas lines cracking and leaking has anything to do with the cold weather.  It's from the gas and the additives they put in in these days.  It's pretty potent "stuff" and you have to buy a high quality fuel line that will hold up to today's fuels.

Yes I do.  Try getting it from MotionPro.  Here's the link. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/category/motion_pro_premium_fuel_line/

To those of you who may use those little tapered fuel filters available at auto parts stores (I used them on my 175 racer), they also become brittle after a couple of years with modern fuels.  They will crack and/or crumble, leaking gas all over.  Replace them frequently or buy the aluminum ones from a MC supply dealer.
