Title: Replacement rectifier/regulator wiring

   Hi all.
             Been looking for a low cost modern rectifier for some time but in one of those 'senior moments' I got carried away and ordered this :-

  It's bit bigger than I was expecting (4.25''  x 3.25'')with a massive double sided heat sink but should go under the seat or tank.   The one that came has slightly different wire colours to that advertised and looks very similar to the one below. Ok the 3 yellow wires connect to the alternator and the red and green wires go to the battery.  Can any of you elecrical experts tell me the best place to connect (or not connect) the sensing wire, which is black and smaller gauge than the others.  Seems similar to those fitted on some early Kawasaki and Yamaha models. It has 'YM1610' lightly marked on the case.

Very nice and inexpensive.  I installed a similar regulator/rectifier from an early Kawasaki four.  One thing I just learned is that the regulator voltage sensing wire needs to hook up near the battery. I initially hooked it up to the switched power to the coils/lights (blue on the 350). The problem is that due to the small diameter wiring used on Bridgestones, there is .5 - 1.0 volt drop in the wiring, throwing off the voltage regulation.  I had a couple of oxidized connectors that added another .5 volt drop.  On the Kawasaki regulator, the voltage sensing wire did not need to be switched as there was no current draw to kill the battery during storage, so I hooked it directly to the battery positive lead.

             Many thanks Karl. Exactly what I needed to know. I wasn't fully sure of the role of the sensing wire but now understand and where to fit the connection. Will carry out a current draw check test when switched off.

 Yes i know this is an old thread but ive just looked on it for some advice, i have a reg/rec same as above ready to fit which has the three yellow wires and the black red green, my problem is red is usually live and black ground here your saying green is ground and black the sensor wire which goes to live (with the red) is there a way of testing which function the black and green wires have,without connecting them and possibly causing damage?

 i have spent a bit of time researching this and have found that most if not all reg/recs use a green wire for ground so i have answered my own question! or you could say google and ebay have!
