Dynamo 4mm .75 pitch screws
« on: August 20, 2015, 05:06:31 PM »
I am (still) working on my dynamo rebuild and the screws to mount the points and points plate are in sorry shape from all three of the dynamos I have. Does anyone know a source for these screws? 4x10 (0361-0410) and 4x7 (0361-0407)

   Hi Bert,
For once,  this one works in favour of UK owners. We use this guy.   JUST REALISED YOU WANT 4mm NOT 5mm.  :-[ :-[

I do remember US owners, on the site, ordering from here and bemoaning the postage and import charges. Surely they must be available in the US ?

Hey Bert, I'm not sure if these will work for you. I don't think they are JIS. Give them a look, Steve

Hi again Bert, I'll try and get it right this time.  :D
Had a root round the UK screw suppliers for 4x.75 screws, drew a blank I'm afraid.
I can tell you from experience that 4x.7 ISO screws can be readily interchanged for the 7mm long screws that hold the points to the points plate. I think it works because there are only 3or4  threads through the plate.
Some of the 10mm long screws have been swapped for ISO on at least one of my alternators. Whether they retapped or just wound them in I don't know (probably the latter).
In reality the difference in the pitch is only 0.05mm or 2thou per thread coil if I've got the math(s) correct. Another option would be to rethread ISO screws, 4x.75 die available here
http://www.tracytools.com/taps-and-dies/metric-taps-dies/4-x-75-metric ,       not good engineering but a way out and keeps everything original. .

Steve and Brian, thanks for the help.
Steve, will check this out.
Brian, I had thought about the .7 in a .75 hole trick, but had not done the math, so was initially worried about damage issues. Will probably just run them in and see how it goes. Fortunately, I have several plates.
Since I'm probably not going to find original-like screws, I'll look for 4x.7 socket heads.
Thanks again.
If anyone has NOS or clean originals, I would be interested.
