Hello!  I have a 1966 90 Sport oi.  I have replaced all the obvious parts, including the battery.

I get no spark!

A friend/mechanic pulled the flywheel/rotor - everything looks "clean" and he checked the points
and cleaned them.  He used my voltmeter and checked various things (I have no idea how to
even attempt to use it!).  He was a bit unfamiliar with the magneto coils.  We pulled the ignition
coil, the spark plug wire was loose and a bit brittle?  Can you even check an ignition coil?

I need to find out CHEAPLY if this bike will run so I can then put more money into it to restore it.

Please help!  You are my only hope!  Thank you for any information, Rachel

With a magneto ignition system, the battery is not a concern since the spark is relying on the magneto suppying the initial powering to create the 'spark' for the coil then to the plug. Is there any amount of spark activity going on when kicking it over at the points gap? Is the ignition switch in the 'on' position?  Bad condenser is a possibility.....just depends where the exact location of the problem(s) lay that needs to be traced and addressed to be fixed. Ignition coils can be tested, however.... it may not be the problem if there is something wrong before the ignition coil. I would check the points first to see there is any sparking going on there first ( if not.....replace the condenser )

I assume from the comments about the voltmeter that your friend checked the continuity of the wires making the connections between the various parts of the ignition. This would identify any bad wires (open connections) or loose connections. This needs to be done systematically, so you verify all of them.

Thank you for your response...  I was told by my friend that before we get spark, we have to fix the electrical problem first. So, I gather there was no spark when I pushed on the kick start, which I did a whole lot while things were being "checked".  I never even thought of the condenser.
