Question about Chibi engines
« on: October 30, 2021, 01:26:31 PM »
With the weather being cold and wet here lately I find myself going through my project boxes of parts.  I have a Chibi engine that I just noticed only had two transfer ports.  I compared it with a NOS BS60 cylinder I have and find that the new cylinder has three ports.  I have no information on the new cylinder and I believe the cylinder from the Chibi is the newer design because it has the standard bolt up exhaust fitting.

Any Chibi guys/girls out there with any ideas?

In the photo, the top cylinder is from my 50 Sport.  The middle cylinder is from the Chibi, and the bottom cylinder is NOS 60cc cylinder.

What year is your Chibi ?. Of the few I have restored, all have used the cylinder you refer to as 60CC NOS. I'm thinking your was an early production motor.

I only have an engine, no bike.  I picked the engine up with some NOS parts for $50, so I thought I'd rebuild it.  The right side crankcase cover has no numbers stamped on it at all.  Just a raised blank area where numbers should be.  It does have the 3 speed transmission though.  I noticed in the parts manual that the early cylinders had the screw on collar type of exhaust attachment and not the bolt-up type that my cylinder has so I thought maybe mine wasn't an early version.  Maybe there was yet another version of the motor between the early ones and yours???

Otherwise, I have no information on the engine.
