Title: Carb cover debate
Post by: Bikenstein on February 16, 2012, 05:50:50 PM
I agree wholeheartedly that everyone should be able to voice their opinion. I for one can't contain myself sometimes. That's exactly why I posted here on this subject. And if you feel the need to express your opinion, you can do it here or start your own thread like the man said. I have no idea how many covers are in demand but I think having a single thread dedicated to finding out is an excellent idea. As far as being able to come up with a quantity that will justify producing them, I can only speculate. But even if the demand does not attain to Richard's requirements (by the way I think he requested we give him a count) to consider producing these items, someone else may think there is sufficient demand. At least we'll have a general idea with what we're faced with. I can't see just giving in without trying. Plus it keeps the forum active. If you post negative statements on the Official Carb Cover count site, that will just serve to discourage others from participating. And that will only serve to obscure a realistic count and we'll remain where we are now, not knowing if it's feasible or not. So if you think I'm looking for pie in the sky or just plain full of it, let me know. I don't care. My wife thinks I am.

someone else once said that a lot of people on this site are inactive and i know for a fact that there are people who own gtr's that don't use this site but with the carb covers they may use ebay and once they are made i am sure word of mouth and other sources would secure Richards return. even if i takes a while .

there are never any problems only solutions

Fair dinkum Mate ;D    I was just sort of daydreamin' and was thinkin' if you list the number of sidecovers you will commit to, it might be better to do them all the same, for example:

5- Right
3- Left

If you forego a lengthy comment and follow a pattern like this, it would probably make it easier for Richard to take a count. And also keep the thread from going in some other direction. Thanks to moondog for starting this count.

Why don't we run a add in a magazine to see if any body is interested in having carb covers made!! for a GTR and GTO.
If we put it in the right magazine it could be a world wide interested just a idea.
Thanks.
Steve.
PS it also could promote the site.

Great idea, get a price and we could all share the cost. I'm still behind the times with the current technology, but maybe some interest could also be generated with facebook or myspace? What the hell is twitter? Never mind I don't care. I'm for the ad thing, let's do it.

I would think that anyone restoring a GTR/GTO or at least looking to keep one in running condition and who also owns a computer, has already found/seen this site. Due to the increased activity here, any basic search for Bridgestone parts will turn up tons of hits for "Richard's Relics". An ad for these people would have little "return" for Richard.

So who does that leave that an ad would possibly target? Again, if your going to restore or maintain one of these bikes, you're eventually going to end up on Richard's doorstep either via Ebay or here. He is the "big gorilla" in the room after all!  ;D

Just tossing out thoughts here, but I really don't think that in today's computer oriented world, a "paper" generated advertisement is going to have much of an impact.  :(

One thing we all could do that is free, is post something on our local Craigslist and maybe in a few of the other "cities" in your state. Someone could compose an "ad" that we all like (and Richard approves) and then we could just cut & paste it around the world.

Hey, that's another great idea. Bridgestone people are smart.    Maybe it's because I'm from Alabama. :-\

........snip.......  Maybe it's because I'm from Alabama. :-\

Alabama's not so bad.... I lived in Selma from 1963 - 1967.   :o

Thanks for the support. Joking aside ,I really enjoy it here. Bought this place and moved here in 2002. The people here are laid back and you're free to build whatever you like the way you want it, without permits. That's a good thing because I need to build a shop bad.  I wasn't around Selma then but I think it was kinda rough at that time wasn't it?

The 60's were crazy back then, not only in Selma, but pretty much all over the U.S. I was in grade school when I was there and other than not being allowed to go downtown in the weeks before or after the "March", I was mostly oblivious to it all.

The neatest thing I remember, was after we left and moved to Montana, we found out they filmed a movie in Selma and our old house was one of the main focal points in it. It was called "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" and starred Alan Arkin, Sandra Locke and Stacey Keach! It was cool watching it and seeing my bedroom and all the other stuff I remembered.  ;D

No question there are a lot of motorcycle magazines out there, I see them everytime I go to the store. What I intended to say in my post and then got off course (my brain wanders sometimes  ;D ) was to be directed more at the type of ad you proposed.

You asked... "Why don't we run a add in a magazine to see if any body is interested in having carb covers made!!" That sounds like an ad that is basically a survey and I just don't think there'd be a big enough response to justify the cost. It's sure to cost a good amount of $$$'s for something that doesn't generate nor guarantees any revenue.

Please don't take offense, I'm just thinking out loud here.

Moonpup,
I did not take any offense but just remember 2 years ago i could not use a computer with all the help from Richard and you self.
Look at me now, i know there are people out there that cannot used a computer, i can get a link in the magazine to Richard
Probably for no cost they like that type of news all my bikes at one time have been in that magazine.
Thanks.
Steve.
