If your alternator has a double lobed cam (half engine speed alternator), get the GL1000 set with the pickups at 90° and 2 magnets in the trigger rotor.  If it has one of the 2 versions with a single lobed cam (full engine speed alternator), get the KZ1000 version.

If you make the swap to electronic ignition, should you use a different spark plug ??

No, the heat range won't change, it's a function of combustion mixture. The electronic ignition only supplies the spark, won't affect the combustion process itself. It may help make sure it fires every time is all.
