175DT Fuel Tap repair query
« on: January 03, 2014, 12:47:24 AM »
I am refurbishing my 175DT fuel tap. I have it apart, except for the large nut. Does anyone know how to remove the nut?

Thanks

As far as I could tell on mine it was no removable due to the wire lock pin in the one small hole maybe at one point you could remove it but its long since stuck for me. I was able to get the nut to move with a lot of break away lube and WD. That was enough for me.

The 50 and 90 have a brass pin that keeps the nut above the threads. Not sure how to get it apart, but if anyone has an idea, it would definitely come in handy.

Ray,
There is a pin, you have to drill a hole on the other side and then you can use a small punch to push it out.
And its the same for the GTR 350 i have removed the nut that way and put it back etc.
Thanks.
Steve.

Ray,
When you get some time could send a picture of your mountain 90.
Thanks.

On the BS90 / BS50 Sport there are two types of tap. On one type, the nut is a double threaded item (left hand thread on the tap end) which simply unscrews.

On the other type, there is a small angled hole in the nut and a matching groove right around the tap body. In production, the nut was placed over the tap body, and a length of soft iron wire was fed into the angled hole in the nut and around the groove, thereby holding the nut in place - rather like an internal circlip.

The trouble is, it's almost impossuble to renove the iron wire once installed. I managed it only once, where the iron wire had been cut a bit long and was (just) protruding from the hole in the nut, allowing me to worry at the wire end until I could get a grip with pliers and draw it out.
