Should I buy it?
« on: June 27, 2012, 10:11:27 PM »
Hey guys, totally new to Bridgestone bikes.  Found one for sale locally, 1970 TMX 100, starts but stalls out, shows some age but looks to be all there, no title, asking $300.  Think it might be a cool resto project.  Is that a fair price?  What do I need to know about that model before I get in over my head, i.e. impossible to find parts, trouble areas, etc.  TIA - Greg

entomophile,
The price sounds pretty good, but I am not involved with the 100s. I do like their style though.
I have not considered a bike in Wisconsin without a title as many seem to say it's difficult to get one thru our DMV. Maybe I'm listening to the wrong people?
Depends on what you hope to do with the bike if you need a title.
Sounds mostly like a dirty carb. Maybe try to measure the voltage during its brief run time and see if it has a charging problem.
Pictures help for defining value. Re-doing chrome gets expensive if you want original condition look.

Wow moonpup, I'm impressed.  That's the one.  I was going to post the pic today.  I'm going to call my DMV today and see how tough it's going to be to get a new title.

I buy every good one I get a chance at. They are getting fewer everyday and make great collector bikes. Keep em coming.
Thanks Mike

Probably for the better.  I would stay away from anything without a Title unless you plan on using it for parts.  Everyone always says Titles are easy to get.....I tell them if they are so easy to get, get one, and then we will talk.  I suppose this varies slightly by state.  I know in Ohio, it's not easy, if not nearly impossible.

Looks like the classic story of the one that got away.  I'm sure we've all been there.   Mark.
