She lives!

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Finally got a different noise out of my MKII RS tonight!  A little bit of firing!  Couldnt keep get her running though.  Baby steps, getting there.  This was after I adjusted my points gap to be correct.

What are reasons why it wont stay running?  Common problems?!?!  Anything I should check?  Carbs were rebuilt so I doubt its jets but I can break those down again and see.  Doing a premix right now to make sure it doesnt seize.  WHAT ELSE!?!?!?! I want this puppy running!

Thanks in advance guys!

Are your enricheners working? I know you had some bad cables. Is it firing on both sides? Does it respond to throttle? or just die?

I fired up a 200 today also. I had it running the other day but only ran on the left cylinder and backfired once in a while on the right. I thought maybe a seal, didn't really know for sure. Pulled off the engine cover, clutch, crank gear, idler gear, and the valve housing. Seal looked ok. Took the valve off to make sure it was timed correct. It wasn't. It was off by one tooth.  It was on the L mark instead of the R mark. Replaced everything and now its running on both sides.

Whenever you see messed up screw heads and know someone has been into the engine before, you never really know what to expect.

It just dies.  It fired for maybe 3 seconds so I am a long way off from running.  It sounded like it fired on both sides though.  I have hesitated to take the engine cases apart just based on the general idea that if you dont know what your doing you might make it worse.  Trying to stick with the basics and see if I can keep it running.  I will probably keep kicking it this afternoon to see what happens.

I will check the parts manual for the enrichener.  Not sure what it is or does.  I assume enrichen!

AHHHHH!!!! I see. Nah it wasnt pulled.  Basically I got two hairy carbs.  I kept the ends of the broken cables just so I could pull the slide and the choke.  Ill grab some clamps this afternoon and pull the choke.  It would make me so happy to see her stay running.  Its gotta stay running long enough for me to run up to our backdoor and yell for my wife to come listen.  Then ill have the go ahead to start buying parts!!!!
