Can someone help me understand how my TMX 100 is build date of February 1969? As I read the info found on Richards, it says date codes start in every even year starting in 64 and run a 2 year cycle.  If January is even and A it would be 64, M - 65, B - 66, N-67.  1969 would be O, but my ID n umber is N.

Hey jade,
The letter indicates the month of manufacture.  The letter and number plug into a chart of known serial numbers and you come up with the date.  From the Serial # ID Guide on this site, the TMX and other 100's started production in January 1968.  A link to the guide.  http://bridgestonemotorcycleparts.com/index.php?topic=449.msg25903#new

You're getting messed up on 2 points....

1 - The alphabet count starts fresh every 2nd. even year, so Jan 64/66/68/70 all start with "A"

2 - The odd year months run M thru Z, but do NOT include the letters X & Y.

Note: You also have to factor in on what year production started for a particular model and how high or low the production number is.

Okay Moonpup I have some questions. I am trying to figure year and months so here goes BUT how do you know when production of a model started?

TMX 100 - 22N -   February 1969 - this one was already given to me

Mach II SS 200 - 23L -  According to an article I read in Motorcycle Classics, production of these started in 1968 - December 1968? This bike is titled as a 1969, but L is an even year letter.

90 Sport OI - 18C - Production started in 1964? -

90 Sport OI - 18D - Same

So if I start in 64 and January is A, is M 65 and B 66 and C 67 and D 68?

My 18D is titled as a 1967 and it is the ORIGINAL title from date of purchase. Date of purchase on title is April 24, 1967.  Would it be a 1966 and bought in 1967? D is an even year letter. How would I know if it is a 64,65,66,67 and so on if I had no title?

I am not a dumb person, but I do not have the hang of this chart yet.

Thanks.
