Need help identifying parts
« on: June 17, 2016, 12:55:34 PM »
Hello all,

I have a disassembled BS100 engine that came to me in a couple of boxes that I'm trying to reassemble.  I'm doing a dry run right now trying to determine what parts might be missing.  Surprisingly, I'm down to a few parts, mostly washers, small bolts, screws, and nuts that I'm not sure about.  There are however two small parts I can't identify so I've attached two pics.  The small pin does happen to fit in the hole in the other small part but I don't know if that's coincidental.  I've also found parts for wheel hubs so I can't even be sure these are engine parts.

This is my first attempt at assembling one of these engines and I've never had the opportunity to disassemble one.  I've gone through the first 13 sections of the parts manual (that cover the engine) but don't see these parts.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Hey CL-100,
The pin is the rotary valve collar locating pin p/n 09063-104.  It goes on the crankshaft.  I don't recognize the other part.  I'm building a 90 currently.  Same internals for the most part.  Good luck, Steve

This pin measures 3 x 7.5 mm. The locator pin for the rotary valve that goes in the crank is 15 mm long and I did have that pin.  There is another pin locator for the rotary valve cover on the outside of the right inner case, but I have that pin in the case. I can't find that pin on the parts list and I can't tell what the length of  that pin is in my case without pulling it.

The valve collar locating pins for bikes after serial number 12P (all BS100's) are 3x10mm p/n 09063-104 (for the splined valve collar).  That's a little closer but probably not it.  The valve cover pin has 4mm diameter by my caliper.  I didn't pull it so not sure of the length.  The only other pins I can think of are the shift fork guide pins.  They have a larger diameter.  Maybe it's just a part that fell into the box?  Good luck, Steve

You may be right, and it's just an extra.  The box of parts traveled around before I received it.

I stumbled across the mystery part while searching through a Taka 100 parts catalogue for something else.  It is called a "shift stopper boss" and the pin does go with it.  It attaches to the end of the shift drum at the neutral switch end of the roller drum shaft.

The Taka catalogue has cleared up a few things for me.  This stopper boss part is not shown in my BS 90/100 parts catalogue.

I am not a mechanic, but is the shift stopper boss ,part of the mechanism that makes the Take transmission a positive stop  4 speed shift pattern versus the 4 speed rotary pattern used on the Bridgestones 100?

Makes sense, I'll have to check.  The end of that shift drum is well worn where that pin sits.
