Want to Buy a Chibi!
« on: August 10, 2011, 10:33:18 PM »
Hey folks. My first bike I ever owned was a Chibi by Rockford way back when. I worked my tail off to earn the $$ to buy that bike. Not a mid-life crisis but I have got an itch to get my hands on one if anyone has one or any leads would be appreciated. Not looking to spend a fortune and running would be great but a project is also cool. Thanks.

There are some currently listed in the classifieds in the "Found on the Web" section.

Hey thanks for the tip! New on this site and found it on a google search for a Chibi. I have a lot of fond memories on that little screamer...that's how I learned to shift 40 years ago!  :)

Re: Want to Buy a Chibi - GOT IT!!

I got it, the one that was listed on Craigslist in MN and it was delivered last night. Decent original condition for a 40 year old but now the work begins. Someone jerryrigged the air cleaner and intake hose that connects to it with non-original, as well as the petcock/fuel line with a srtaight pipe fitting replacing the petcock.

However I put gas in it and it started right up. The smell of the exhaust took me right back 40 years!

Unfortunately aside from the non-standard things above to fix (which are actually functional) it is leaking tranny oil like a sive (which I hope isn't the main crankcase gasket) and the throttle sticks. I look forward to getting this baby running to teach my boy how to shift the way I learned on it. Thanks for everyone's tips and if you have any parts sources please pass them my way. The parts I have seen on eBay are limited and pricy but my options may be limited.
