Clutch Revision History
« on: February 18, 2015, 10:53:16 AM »
Can anyone give the reason why the clutch design changed so often during the 350's short production run?

The final version of the clutch hub I have appears to be field mod. #2 with the flange machined off, judging by the tool marks. Also, the mod #2 has one of the five posts broken off. I've seen missing bolts in pictures of other clutch assemblies and wonder if the posts were too weak for (reasonably) robust use.

Davis,
There was a recent post by Sye that covers the changes made to the clutch as below. Have a read through.

There was a known problem with plate breakage but BS never put this in writing as far as I know.  They claimed the changes were made to reduce clutch inertia or try to quieten the clutch but I think we know the real reason!!

I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!
