identifacation issue MKIIrs
« on: February 26, 2010, 04:24:44 AM »
I have MK II RS and the title I have says 70 but the neck has no plate on it. The frame neck stamp is ta1-31008 and the body tag is 23L00180 if the last five digits are in sync of manufacture numbers it tells me its made in December on a even year but in the first 180 bikes made. Is there any other way to date it. the title says date first sold 02/03/70 and model year 70 but no head stock tag? What was the first year of the MK II's?

If you haven't found it yet, check out the following:  http://bridgestone.skew.org/serial_numbers.html

There's another one in .pdf format somewhere on the site that I downloaded a while back but I don't remember where in "downloads" it is.  Somewhere there is mention of BS bikes 1970 onward having the dates stamped on the rivet plate on the steering neck.  I'm sure you'll find that as well.

I have the same model as you and am having some i.d. issues as well.  Mine is a 1971 MK II/RS produced in November 1970.  The weird thing is that in the service manual I received from the owner, it indicates a 175cc engine was installed in 1980; however, the stamp on crank indicates it is a 200.  I'm not sure if the 175 top end could be dropped into the 200 lower end though.  Anyway, not your problem but hopefully the document I pointed you to can help solve your mystery.

Best of luck.

Its in the LINKS section, under header Serial number ID page.  I assume its there because it's a link to that website, not a download from this site. Luke
