175 Huricane Scrambler
« on: December 18, 2009, 04:21:29 PM »
The oil injection pump leaks all of the time. I have changed the injector oil to insure correct oil. The leak appears to be coming from the lower plate on the pump, however cannot confirm. This pump is more difficult to remove then Yamaha or Suzuki. You must remove carb and drain the crankcase to get to nut on inside of the engine, so I have not removed it yet.
It does not make sense to me that it leaks, my experience with these pumps on other brands is they are usually very reliable. I have a friend with a GTR 350 and it is doing the same thing. Is this a Bridgestone common problem,.

The guy you bought the oil pump from is Richard, who also owns and provides this site, I do not know why he does not
promote his parts more on this site???  You can contact him from this site see:  FORUM section under topic called:  "Request parts from Richard Clark, provider of this site"

Or his email is     bsparts@aye.net

Jeff

Thanks for all the help sending people to me who need parts.  To answer your question
of why I do not push my parts on this site?

I want to keep this site mostly informational towards Bridgestone motorcycles, I do not
want to turn this site into a "Richards parts for sale site"

Many people in the BS world, do know I have a large inventory of BS parts in which I
do sell, you yourself, have seen the inventory.  I have now hired a man who is going
through the inventory, listing everything by part number and description on a computer
inventory control program.  When completed I will be able to answer parts inquires immediately.
Without folks having to wait for me to "look" up parts, which I know is very discouraging .

Again many thanks for your help on this site.

While we are talking oil pumps. My 175 pump leaks as well. Is there seals that can be replaced. The pump works fine, just has a leak.

Glad to hear there are others interested in 175 oil pumps. Has anyone changed one of these pumps? Looking at the parts manual it appears that you have to drain the crankcase then remove carb and pump gear case to get to nut on shaft that goes thru the pump gear case and the pump gear. Requires two gaskets 1562-8000 and 1563-8000 (which Richard sold me with the pump) to do the pump replacement. If there are any tips on changing this pump I would appreciate your comments. Thanks

You remove the carb, the aluminum cover mounted to the rotary valve cover with the pump attached, remove the gear from the pump, then remove the pump from the aluminum cover. There will be a small amount (maybe 1/2 ounce) of oil under the cover, which you will lose.  There is no need to drain anything.  You will likely need a new gasket for mounting the aluminum cover to the rotary valve cover and for mounting the oil pump to the cover.  These are not too difficult to make, or check with Richard or CPC to see if they are still available.

There was a repair kit for the pump leaks.  See Service Letter BSG-0063, available under the Downloads section of this site.  The service kit is SC1521.  You'd have to check with the parts sources to see if any are available.
