BS 200 2 Stroke Oil Question

Reading various topics recently has led me to wonder if the oil pumps for 2 stroke oil are dependable. Since this will be more of a garage queen when done I wonder if just using premix in the tank would be the best way to go. My understanding is that this is NOT possible on the 350's. Do any of you have experience with this on the 175s/200s?   Jeff

I haven't heard of any problems with the oil pump other than an occasional leak, usually where it mounts to the rotary valve cover. Maybe someone else can chime in here, too.

I am with Karl. The only problem I have ever had is a small leaking around the gasket
to the motor.

Occasionally having check balls getting gummy from sitting too much, then leaking oil by when shut off could be an issue, but the newer oils are less prone to creating that problem. The pump itself isn't really problematic.

I asked the exact same question a few years ago.
Since then, I put 1200 miles and have had no issues other than oil leak.

But does anyone know if its ok to run premix and just avoid the pump leaking all together? Has anyone done it? Someone who owns a number of BS's has told me that you cannot run premix in the 350's (unsure why). Just wondering if the same is true for the 175s and 200s.

If you look at the oil schematic in the repair manual for those bikes, you'll see that on the 350's the pump directly lubricates the mains in addition to providing fuel mix, and the 175-200's still use residual wash from the fuel mix, as I recall.
