Fuel Filter Problems?
« on: November 21, 2011, 01:26:26 PM »
Hey guys,

I put a pair of clear inline fuel filters on my 175 Dual Twin.  The bike seems to run fine, but you don't see much fuel in the filters.

I can take the carb bowls off, turn on the petcock and fuel totally fills up the filters and then runs out of the bottom of the carbs.  When I put the bowls back on and run the bike for a while, the fuel level in the filters drops so that you can't see much fuel in the filter but the bike runs fine.

Does this make sense at all?  I would have thought that gravity would keep the filters totally full.  Thanks!

Paul

I think they're clear, but I'll double check, thanks!  Anyone else had this issue?

They do have direction of flow arrows and are installed correctly.

It's not uncommon for in line fuel filters to retain air.  It can happen when the flow rate through the filter isn't high enough to force the air out, and the fuel lines aren't big enough to let the "bubble" work it's way either up or down the line.  Typically the fuel still runs through the filter just fine, even though it looks like there's no fuel in the filter.  If that's what you are seeing, it doesn't hurt anything.

I'd be that's what it is as I haven't had any trouble with it running.  Thanks!
