help with id, parts, etc
« on: May 14, 2011, 11:30:07 PM »
Just purchased a twin, the seller thought it is a 200, but I don't know at all. It is a twin, it is in my van still so I cannot even really look for ID marks on it. It has scrambler pipes, no mufflers..

from e-bay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270729780341&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT

The PO says he got it without pistons, so it needs those. (any known piston swaps with yam or suzi kx, etc?) It needs carb boots and an air cleaner, tires, and probably a crank shaft, lights, tank rubbers and the list goes on. Maybe I will part it out, but since they're cool bikes I prefer to make it go again.

Please chime in if you know of these parts available for cheap. Also if anyone knows for sure whether this is a 200 or 175 could help.

Pretty sure you have a 200.

Yep, me too. Bigger is better, except the 175 goes into a different AHRMA class I understand.(?) If it ever runs and or gets raced.

I think I got what I expected for the minimum bid. Wish it would have been closer to home.

Wow , that's a nice collection. I need about everything, pistons, head bolts , pipes, gaskets, air box and boots for starts, then the cosmetic things.

I need to pull it apart and see what else, or if it's even worth pursuing it. Looks like some of yours are a much better  starting point.

How far are you from Central Oklahoma?

It could be an SS. Have you had a look at the tag on the right side of the frame under the seat?

Still in the van, ha ha. Haven't needed to go on any trips or  haul more than a couple things, but thanks, I know where to look.

If it wasn't ss would it be a 200 MK ii?

The 200 came in the RS and the SS.

The RS had low pipes and the SS had high pipes. There were other differences also but the exhaust was probably the most noticeable.

Found the small print just where you told me to look. Thanks.

Model is BS MK II SS

Serial Number 23100XXX. I guess it's well under 1,000 in that production run at the time of it's manufacture.

Finally got it unloaded and looked over it a bit.

Trying to figure out the manufacture date, etc, but there doesn't appear to be a letter , just numbers.

Are you sure the 1 isn't an I?

Perhaps, I wrote it down as i saw it, then I saw the PDF instructions posted for what it is. It is finally unloaded from the van,

One head is off, was loose. it had what looks like an old beer caoste cut to use as a head gasket.

It does have pistons, I guess the starbord  one was down, and the guy selling it thought it was gone.

Perhaps it is an "i."  That would make more sense.

Is there any way to figure out if the bike was September 64-66-0r 68?

It seems like it the low two or three hundreds, as I remember.

Got both heads off, and I guess the PO had some reason to believe there were no pistons.

I will forge ahead sometime, busy and all.

Is there a way to download pics straight to the site if they are small enough in k bytes?

I'd rather not go through photobucket/image shack links, y'know. Much easier ways on some forum options.

I saved the head gasket that came out. Looks like a vintage  cardboard beer coaster from a bar. Gotta post a picture of that for y'all  if I can find where I put it. Definitely worth a pic.

adding photos

It's easy to add photos to a reply in here. As you're typing in your message, look below and left of the white box you're typing in and there is a "+" in a small blue square. Click on "additonal options" and it then adds an "attach" box which will let you browse to where you have your photos. It seems to take more than just a few seconds for it to get loaded so don't get impatient and cancel the attempt.
I'll try adding a shot of the gauges of a '78 Honda 400 Hondamatic sitting waiting for a good CDI.
Once you have the photo(s) added then hit the "Post" box at the bottom.
Sorry bluetwin, I guess meant to the gallery....I need to pay attention!
