Title: 100Trail & TMX specs
Post by: Old BS Guy on February 03, 2017, 04:49:12 PM
Although we've got some great downloads to work with, thanks to Richard & others, The service manuals that are denoted as "use for 100's also", come up short for the tube frame bikes. There are no engine specs anywhere for the 100. Can someone give me the stock bore spec and wear limit, (if applicable), for the aluminum cyl. 100 trail & TMX please? Many thanks.

Great collection of bikes there KP,  spec for 100 cylinder?.................. who cares, ride one of the others  ;D   lol,

Can't give a dimension for the pot but  using data from other BS chrome bores, once there is 5-6 thou or more clearance on the piston it's time to renew something.

The 90 Sport and 175 specify .001 in. minimum and .003 in. maximum piston clearance, use similar numbers for 100/200 cylinders. They'll run OK with some more than that, though.

I hadn't realized there weren't published specs for the 100/200 cylinders/pistons until now, but I didn't find any either.

Thanks Guys. I knew the piston to wall clearance would be the same as the other chrome bore cylinders. I was looking for the actual bore spec. I went back to downloads and pulled it out of a 100 Sport brochure. 53mm. I had purchased a used cylinder and wanted to double check for wear and taper before installing. The bore plating itself looks pretty good. No chipping around ports, etc.  Once you get past .003 on clearance you risk breaking a skirt, which usually spells death for a nikasil or chrome bore.

Cheers,

Brian.....I'd love to ride anything right now, but there's 18" of snow in my front yard!
