Hi, Folks,

I don't want to rain on your parade, guys, but I went down a similar track a few years ago when I re-built my 100TMX. It still had a couple of perished rubber wiring straps attached. I bought some new ones to replace these and added some others in what seemed likely places attaching wiring harnesses to the frame. It looked good when finished, but within two years, all the new straps had perished again. A couple I had left over in the packet still appeared OK, but it seems that once old rubber straps are placed under stress, they have a short life. I ended up using black ty-raps instead for out-if sight wiring straps. For the visible handlebar wiring (front stop switch harness), I used BS wire clamp (part no 1689-5000) intended for the holding choke and throttle cables together just above the carbs on the 90/100 models. I clipped this around the stop switch harness and front brake cable.

Thanks Graham, that's sorta what I figured would've happened to these. I got a little ambitious this morning and went and removed the tank & seat off the GTO project bike and managed to find only the remnants of one strap. (it was the one on the frame back in front of the coils) Not a sign of any others.

May eventually try to find a modern replacement for the exposed straps on the GTO handlebars, but will probably end up using the plastic zip-ties on the hidden areas. No big deal, I was just more curious about their placement.

On a side note, after exposing all the wiring this morning, I'm now leaning towards the rear brake switch using the 3rd. strap. Couldn't really see any other place where one would be needed.  ;D

A quick search and I found these similar straps that could be used in a pinch. Further research would probably turn up something even closer.

Here's a quote from the site.

"Wire straps - these little rubber straps are copies of what was used on Ducati singles - they will work great on twins as well to hold your wires to the frame...."

Steve, take your time....no big hurry. If you do find them, could you let us know how long they are?

Thanks, Mike

Just an update here.... Earlier, I didn't have a good pic of the 71 GTR's with the front brake switch but then I remembered this brochure and found it had a great pic of the handlebars that I could use.

As suspected, they also got the straps for the brake switch wiring and it appears they used 2 very close together!
