Painted my headlight
« on: March 08, 2013, 04:41:43 PM »
Well last weekend I decided to start working on the TMX pulling parts off front to back to clean them up and refinish them.  I got the head light off which was originally painted grey but was so covered in rust you really couldn't tell what it was.  I pulled it off and set aside the lamp and speedo and started sanding the bucket.  I spent about 4 hours getting all the rust and old paint off then primed and painted it with rustoleum because its what I had and I will refinish everything perfect when I get more funds and less projects.  I wet sanded the paint to make it super smooth then sprayed on the clear coat.  Immediately the paint started to peel and crack.  The clear ended up being acrylic which doesnt mix with enamel. I was pissed but when it dried I sanded it down and started over with all duplicolor spray paint sanding between coats and it turned out pretty nice.  Not bad for spray paint anyway.  The first pic is the only before I have of the bucket but you can see the rust.
