350 GTO Oil Tank Question
« on: January 03, 2012, 12:55:15 PM »
The oil tanks on both my bikes have suffered a major melt down on the filler neck!  >:(

My questions for all you GTO owners are......

1) Is this a common problem with the GTO because the tank is so close to the muffler or.....

2) Did the previous owners screw up and make contact with the tank while removing a hot muffler?

I never had this problem when I owned my first GTO back in the 70's, so I was just wondering why both of these are melted. My first one had about half the miles these bikes have, so maybe I just didn't own it long enough for this to happen.

I have had a similiar problem with my GTO with the pipe coming in contact with the screw on cap. Solved it by moving the pipe around to get the needed clearance, as you know there is quite a bit adjustment on these. Also maybe look at the oil tank mounting, you might find you can move it a little as well.    John

Thanks Jeff,

I saw that when Richard first listed it. As usual with my luck on eBay, I was second highest bidder with the winner taking it with the next bid increment. Guess my pockets aren't deep enough.   :o
