Front brake rod question
« on: April 29, 2020, 12:43:52 PM »
I'm missing the original small hex nut (p/n 0232-0500) that goes on the front brake arm rod. I've tried other small metric hex nuts I have on hand, and they won't thread (threads on that part of the rod are good), and I'm wondering if that nut is left-hand thread?? Thanks in advance!

Mine has what appears to be a right-hand thread. The rod itself has a right-hand thread on the end with the nut and a left-hand thread on the other. Sorry, I don't have one apart that I can check the size and pitch and there isn't enough exposed to tell for sure.

Can confirm the left hand end of the brake adjuster rod has a right-hand thread with a standard (for BS) 5mm x 0.9mm pitch JIS thread, nut is 9mm across flats. Current ISO nuts have 0.8 pitch, 8mm A/F.  I would buy a tap and rethread an ISO nut. Taps are cheap and will come in handy .
Of course, Richard may have the correct nut.
Unspoiled by progress.
I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!

Thanks, Brian! I was also thinking that "modern" metric nuts may have a different thread-pitch compared the original nut. Now I know for sure.
