175 Electronic Ignition Conversion
« on: November 14, 2016, 12:57:24 PM »
I just finished converting my 175DT to the Dyna S electronic ignition setup. I followed the steps in Karl Swartout's post. I have to be honest, it was insanely simple.

There is a small bit of configuring with tapping new threads on the mounting plate for the pickups and tapping the rotor for the set screw, but that was easy. I had to send the cam out to get turned down to friction fit the rotor magnet. Cost me $20.

I ran a new blue wire from the generator rather than using the existing ground wire and shrink wrapped it with the existing wires. Looks really clean.

Ditto!  I'd love to see some photos and maybe ask some questions.  I am half way through the same process (as I am building the entire bike).

I only have these 2 currently - I will take a few of the finished product tonight. One shows the mounting plate marked, drilled and tapped for the pickups. The other shows the pickups wired and fitted, but not mounted to the plate yet.

I can't overstate the simplicity of this conversion. I literally followed Karl's post step by step and opted to add a blue wire to power the pickups rather than add an external ground wire and cannibalize the existing ground wire for that purpose.

Ill be happy to answer any questions.

2 pics of the finished product installed on the bike and fully functional. Setting the timing is a whole lot easier with the electronic ignition, although after working through the points ignition a few times, it isn't the worst thing in the world to set the timing with the stock set up.

I got mine running today!
The electronic ignition was a bit of a head scratcher until we realized we had it 180 degrees off. douph!  http://bridgestonemotorcycleparts.com/Smileys/default/shocked.gif
After a few kicks, it fired up.  Just gotta sort through the carbs now.
