Help! Are These All The Same Color ( Imperial Gold) ???
« on: April 01, 2013, 03:50:47 PM »
Still trying to figure out the Imperial Gold EARLY GTO color.  Does anyone know if these three Bridgestones are all sporting the same color??  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.

Hey Steve,

After looking on the manual again the GTO is FBG and the GTR was FOG as was the 200.

Hey Steve,

I'm glad you asked this question as that's my GTO in the first picture. The gold looks lighter in the picture than it actually is, however, the paintwork had already been done when I bought the bike so I can't really verify how correct it is. It certainly isn't as gold as the other two bikes pictured. I bought my bike from Ray in Ireland who is on this site, so if he sees this I'm hoping he can verify...it would be good to know.

Mine is the 1971 200  third with original Imperial Gold paint.  I was actually looking into replicating the color for a few touch ups but decided not to as they are very minor flaws.

Best of luck!  Orion

Hi Steve,

I had an NOS side panel that I gave to the painter to match. At the time when I collected everything it looked prety damn close ?.. The guy that painted these parts lived east of London, sorry can not remember his name. He had bought a Handy lift from me.

later and sorry this is all I can add here .. ray

Steve,

After a great deal of searching and reaching out to
members who have painted their GTO's, this is what
I came up with;

Sunshine Yellow DBC 82623
over Pure Gold DBC 25622

This is different than the gold paint used on the GTR's.
(It is a great deal lighter)

My GTO tank and side covers are out to the painters. As soon
as I get them back I will post pictures.

I hope this helps.

Randy

Like Ray, I too have a NOS panel that I will use to have the color matched. Here's a couple pic's of it in different lighting conditions. The 1st is under fluorescent lights while the 2nd is in a more natural light setting.

Thanks to everyone for all their help and participation in this thread.  Here's the information I have collected and want to share based on all of your input.

1.  There are definitely 2 different shades/color of Imperial Gold.
2.  Early Imperial Gold (GTOs) have a paint code of FBG (1970 and before)
3.  Later Imperial Gold (GTRs) have paint code FOG  (1971 and later)
4.  The early shade of Imperial Gold was used on several models besides the GTO.
5.  These are the models: Mach ll SS-7, Mach ll RS-7, 100G/P-7, and 100TMX-7
6.  The paint codes provided above (by Randy) seems to be the closest match for the early Imperial
     Gold we have so far.
7.  The early gold is definitely lighter and more in the yellow family.
8.  The later gold is definitely darker and seems to be more in the orange family.

If anyone has anything to add to this list please do.  I'm glad we are finally solving this paint color confusion.

Thanks.  Steve S.

I'm still not convinced the 70 & 71 gold's are a different color. Here's a pic of a NOS 71 GTR cover currently on eBay.

The area recieving the most light appears to be as light a gold as in my pics and my pic's don't show the true color as my eyes see it! I couldn't get the camera to capture it right.

While researching this color today I ran across a picture of a custom car with the PPG Sunshine Yellow over Pure Gold combination.  Sure looks like the early GTO color to me.  What do you guys think?

I found another company that appears to have the proper color paint for the
early 350 GTO's. (chrome tank)

X-OTIC Colours

X-OTIC Colours, 08-605 Queens Gold Dark - its' cross reference is PPG 25622  Pure Gold Base Coat
Candee Mid-Coat, 24-600 Ritzee Gold Dark - its' cross reference is PPG 82623 Sunshine Yellow Candy

The price per quart is not to bad.

Great info. Randy.  Those prices are really good compared to my local PPG paint supplier.
Here are the prices they quoted me.  DBC 82623 Sunshine Yellow  $68.25 Pint
DBC 25622 Pure Gold            $68.25 Pint

How do you know the Xotic color codes are the same as the PPG color codes?  Did they tell you this?
Thanks.

Steve,

On their product page they have a "How do our colors compare to others" section.

24-600 Ritzee Gold Dark, $57.04
08-605 Queens Gold Dark, $42.55

The prices are per quart.
