« on: September 13, 2012, 07:55:26 AM »
Hi all ,
Purchased a new twist grip and cable block on line the other day and it is fitted with a indicator switch.Did some markets have indicators or is it from a different model? anyone know.
Dave.

If you look in the BS factory parts book (not the Rockford one) you will find part numbers for indicator lamps, switchbox and relay.

The original road test GTR that was brought into the UK was fitted with indicators, but all the 32-odd UK model GTRs imported here came without indicators, as did all the US models and(Ibelieve) South African and Australian market bikes. As part numbers exist, somebody, somewhere must have imported GTRs with indicators.

Strangely, many of the 175 Hurricanes imported to the UK came with indicator switches but no indicators, whilst all GTRs and Dual Twins sold here came with a blank switchbox. Presumably, the batch of UK Hurricanes were taken off the production line before the lamps were fitted. Hang on to your indicator switch - they 're quite hard to find these days.

The original BS lamps were very small, similar to those used on early 1960s small Yamahas with a chromed half-spherical body and a flat circular lens on the front. The lens was only about 2 inches in diameter.

If you're not bothered about absolute originality, you could fit a set of period indicator lamps and lay in wiring to the relay and to your switch. I used lamps from the 1972-ish Suzuki T250,T500 range which look in keeping with the bike.

hey Dave if you put the switch blocks on with no blinkers on the bike will that cause any problems with historic registration

Got this picture from an individual selling some parts and was wondering if the indicators shown are Bridgestone or aftermarket?

You're positively right, William. I didn't notice the red lense, but I don't see well enough to tell the difference between models. I have blurred vision  because of eye injuries from welding and grinding incidents. At any rate I think they were from another Japanese bike of the period.
