Ground wire connections?
« on: June 10, 2011, 08:05:08 PM »
Two ground wire questions on a 350 I could use some help on:

1.  There are two black wires which connect to the negative terminal of the battery.  One goes to the rectifier, where does the other black wire go?

2.  There is a black/white striped wire which comes from the dynamo.  Where does it connect?

Hi BS Mechanic,
Hopefully Coxy can confirm this, but what I see on mine is that the second black wire from the negative of the battery goes to the frame and on mine is held in place by the aft mounting bolt of the voltage regulator.
The wiring diagram shows a black-white wire from the dynamo to the negative of the battery. I don't see that on mine, maybe too much dirt or staining of the wire colors.
There is a black-white wire that runs in that same vicinity of the frame though. When I got my bike the wires from the neutral / 5th gear indicator were broken off. The diagram shows the 5th gear indicator wiring as being black-white.
Not much help on that, I'll try taking another look later today.
Time to clean up and see if I can find Scrambler at Road America - we're having lousy cold weather this weekend.

Thanks to both or you, Old Smokey and Coxy,
Your observations I believe are correct, and are reviving my bits and pieces of memory on how it all hooks up.

Black wire from the negative battery terminal goes to frame at the rear regulator bolt, and the black/white wire from the dynamo goes to the negative battery terminal.

Coxy I hope you are able to take pictures as you disassemble, that is by far the best way to make sure it goes back together again the right way.  The pictures you sent have been very helpful for me to get my cables and wires routed as I get mine reassembled.
