Xmas Video for You!
« on: December 23, 2010, 11:26:36 PM »
I purchased a little Polaroid Video Camera on E Bay Daily Deals that came from Tiger Direct for $32. It uses a SDHC card that I can plug into my computer, which them loads it into my iPhoto and from there I upload it to Photobucket and then link it to here.

It was a semi-warm winter day last Sunday, about 45 F, so I rolled the GTR out and fired it up. Notice my exhaust clamp coming loose on the right muffler: (Click on the pic to start the video)

Not bad for a cheapie camera. What I want to do with it is make a holder so I can make a video while I ride the bike. If the camera falls off, oh well it's only 30 bucks  ;D

I just need a nice warm day, hopefully soon...

Check your jetting and plug on the right side.  Discoloration on the front of the muffler and back near the first internal baffle would indicate the right side is very lean.

Thanks Karl, it might be lean. It was like that when I bought it and I thought the discolorization was curious. The left muffler has almost the bottom whole welded seam blown apart, almost as if it had been the victim of an explosion. I do want to go through the carbs when the weather gets a little nicer. It does run better with the choke on.

I might yank the carbs out if I can find the time. If I put the choke on it starts easy but it smokes a great deal very quickly. After the bike runs for about 2 minutes (or until it starts to warm up) the bike bogs down and dies if I don't pull the choke off. After I pull the choke off the bike runs but has a flat spot off of idle. I sync'd the carb slides so they both open at the same time, and the bike actually runs pretty good at an idle. It quits smoking after I pull the choke off. The plugs are a little black but not real fouled and both cylinders fire pretty good. Last time I actually went out and rode it, it ran strong.

I'm looking at the service manual and it lists two different sizes of main jets: 130 or 140. What do you think I ought to have in there? I'm thinkin' 140's cause I'd rather be rich than lean, but what do I know?

This bike is an old restoration and although it looks good in the Videos you can tell it has been reworked and pieced together from probably several old GTR's. Who ever did it may have done some goofy stuff, I know they have the coil wires crossed cause they have the left coil firing the right cylinder and vice versa.
