!969 Brigestone Duel Twin
« on: November 17, 2016, 04:43:13 PM »
I'm Restoring A 175 Duel Twin and was wondering how the transmission work on it. I can get into first and nothing after that. So do I need the bike running to shift into gears 2,3,4,5 or is something broken on it?

From neutral, push down the front of the lever to go 1,2,3,4,5.    There is the optional 4 speed rotary shift in which it goes N,1,2,3,4,N,1,2,3,4,N etc., controlled by the short lever on the left side of the engine.  If it stops after the 1 st shift, rotate the output sprocket (rocking the bike back and forth) a little or use the kickstarter to turn the engine.  Sometimes the gear dogs need aligned to allow a shift.  If this doesn't help, you may have a more serious problem.  There are downloadable owners manuals and service manuals on this site.

Thanks and do you happen to know it when I turn the short lever if it makes a noise when it engages into/out of rotary into sport.

Normally, it does not make a noise. It just moves a pin in the 5th gear shift fork. However, you can't switch it from 4 speed to 5 speed mode when it is in neutral, you have to be in a gear.

It just flips from one side to the other with little fanfare. There is no click or feeling of anything engaging or disengaging when the lever is flipped from one side to the other.
