Title: Honda 305 Scrambler
Post by: Toystoretom on August 27, 2010, 10:34:09 PM
Hey guys... I got back from a motorsickle rally up in Iowa and ran across an old Honda 305 scrambler from about 1966 or so that was up for sale so I bought it. I was on my Rocket so I couldn't bring it back to KC but I will run up there in about mid September and pick it up. The reason I snagged it was.... first, when I was a kid I had a 250 scrambler, and second... I want to run it up against my GTR. The 305 Scrambler is very close to the legendary 305 Super Hawk but I have the feeling GTR will smoke it (literally).

I have no idea if the Scrambler is in running condition but it turns over and has compression. If I can get it sorted out I smell a U Tube Video.... ;D ;D

Hey Toystore, The 305's would run strong with a little tweekin'. A friend had one growing up that was pretty fast with him on it,of course he only weighed @ 80 lb's at the time. Theres a shot of one in the Yamaha RD60 pic from White Rose in the background. I think it's a CL77-300 (305) scrambler. You can access it from the events section, just click on the picture and it will blow up. Then you can move it around to see it. I think the same bike is on honda305.com as well. Great detail. Good luck with it. (If your 350's even close to right,I'm confident it will have the honda for lunch!) Mark.

I hope this one this one runs without too much being wrong with it. I looked it over the best I could but that was a little difficult because it was buried in the middle of about 100 old junk British bikes at Baxters, and I really couldn't move it out of there . It is fairly complete, the only thing I saw that was missing were the two air cleaner covers, and Baxter said the previous owner told him that he had those, he just needed to find them (The check is in the mail... Right?) Those covers are on Flea Bay if he doesn't come up with them.

It appeared to have everything else and not in too bad of shape. The gas tank was even fairly clean on the inside but the gas had turned bad. The tank has been primered. It has a key. Like I said, it kicks over and has compression. It does have the full upswept exhaust with the heat shields and muffler, I've seen plenty of those old Scramblers missing some of that stuff.

I just wish he had some GTR stuff (That's what I was looking for when I found the Scrambler). He said he runs across Bridgestone stuff every once in awhile and he even knew what he was talking about when it comes to GTRs/GTOs. He said he would keep an eye out for them and let me know if he stumbles across any more.

I'm going to wait until I get the bike home in September before I start ordering parts for it, I want to see what I've really got. There are some U Tube vids out there of CL77bikes and they are kind of neat looking with the short tank and long seat.

Not a prayer I'll ever weigh 80 lbs again Mark. That ship probably sailed when I was in grade school  :o. At least I am below 200, I saw a lot of REALLY fat folks up at the rally, there is an obesesity epidemic. I saw a vendor making dounut hambergers. NO buns, he used dounuts instead. Want some cheese on that? ;D

I'm sure there are many among us who have long since lost that "power to weight" ratio advantage!

My "power to weight" ratio advantage! is long gone too.

Honda 305 Scramblers are way cool, nice m/c but no match for a GTR in terms of performance
