Steve...I love these bikes, I have an early one myself that I did start doing some work on but decided to stop for the time being as I need to finish other things first! As you say, parts are not easy to come by...I consider this a long term project!
Anyway, here's a couple of pictures...

If you swapped the tank out, it would be hard to differentiate on a quick glance.  Mark.

Did these bikes share parts with BSA?

Love those W2's I built a chopper out of one for my boss at the Kawasaki Shop. It was a beautiful bike with a Harley hardtail and springer fork. Screwed up, but beautiful ,and what he wanted. That was back when we would cut the neck to rake it and mould it in. Classic old school. It took me at least thirty trips to the muffler shop to get the custom crossover pipes bent right.

So were these made by Kawasaki or BSA? Was this a partnership?

There's one on eBay right now for sale.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320901774216&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3ASS%3AUS%3A1123
0 bids.
Starting price: $6,500.
Buy It Now:  $8,500.

I have heard finding good original mufflers for these is virtually impossible, and if you do, you'll need a second mortgage to cover the financial damage.
