BS 7 and 175 DT owner new to group

(1/1)

Hi! Hopefully this will end up in the introductions, as intended.

I was given a ride many, many years ago on my dad's then-new BS 7 50cc. Rode in front, cradled between his arms on the front seat sans helmet, etc. Today he would have been ticketed! Or put in jail. Even then I'm not sure it was the wisest thing to do. He moved up to a 90, then a 175 which he still owns tucked away in storage.

Two weeks ago an ad was placed with my employer's bulletin board service selling a 7D! I didn't hesitate, and days later brought home a bike with 579 miles on the odometer. It had been stored in a barn, then given (!) to the most recent owner to use as a teaching resource in his 4th grade classroom.

It joins a 1967 175DT which I have put Scrambler pipes on. The little 50cc makes the newer bike look huge by comparison! I'm looking forward to tracking down a few miscellaneous parts for each bike here, and increasing my Bridgestone knowledge in general. My younger brother owns a 350, so you could say it's been in our blood all our lives.

One last question, where might I inquire as to decoding the serial number in regards to year of production?

Thanks!
Brian

Take a look at this page:

It's under "forum", "Bridgestone Reference Guide", Serial Number ID Guide".

This should help figure out what you have.

Hey Brian

Welcome!  I'm in the process of restoring a BS-7s myself.  I accidentally bought a few parts for a 7D without realizing it.  I know for a fact I have a beautiful NOS chrome headlight bucket along with the wiring harness and accompanying 12V bulb.  The chrome is spotless.  I also have a few 12V rear light and turn signal bulbs.

Let me know what you need and I'll root around.  I have a few rusty but still useful random parts as well that should fit both the 7s and 7d.

Chris
