Title: 175 rings
Post by: RayK on March 12, 2017, 04:59:19 PM
A question for the 175 (DT and SR) experts.
Can you use SR rings on a 175 DT piston?
Cheers

They'll work, but the end gap will be excessive, so performance may be down some.  Others on here may have other opinions, so wait for more answers.

Thanks Karl, I have a choice of putting the old pistons and rings back in or new dt pistons with SR rings. Hobsons choice eh😯

Personally, I'd measure the end gap of each and go with the ones with the least.

I did as you suggested and found endgap on old pistons/rings to be 0.003 inch. SR endgap more than 0.003 inch. So cleaned them up and will go with old ones. Thanks for your help.

This may be a silly questions, why not put new 175 DT rings in as SR's are too small.

Good question BS man,
I happened to have 2 pair of SR rings and no DT rings. As I live in Australia BS NOS parts are near impossible to find. Ergo I now have 2 pair of NOs SR spare. Luckily the used DT pistons and rings are OK to use.
