Title: Crankcase journal problems
Post by: Sye on February 14, 2015, 06:33:36 AM
I gave the lower crankcase an initial clean with a domestic steam cleaner and it did a reasonable job. Apart from some witness marks in the bottom where something fell to pieces in the past it's in reasonable condition apart from a couple of potential problems.

The left side kick start bearing retaining pin has been forced down through the crankcase as in the photo.

The right side gearbox drive bearing retaining pin has also been forced through the crankcase as in the photo.

Can this be repaired to make a usable case or not please?

Sye,
Left side, looks like it may have been drilled from the back to push the pin out?  Right side,  definitely pushed through, note also the small crack to the left. Could have been bolted up with the pin not seated properly in the bearing? Things people do!!!
It all looks perfectly repairable. You could try Elite Engineering, Aintree who advertise alloy welding in the VJMC, Tansha mag.
Never thought of using my steam cleaner, had forgotten I'd got one but will give it a go, thanks for that one
