brake nasty's
« on: March 03, 2012, 11:56:49 AM »
g day all
i thought i would give my front hub a shine for next weekends bike show so i took the front wheel  off again when i did this the pad came off .in between the pad and shoe there was brown powder which i assume to be asbestos and white powder which i think must be aluminum oxide  also the glue to hold these on was a green / yellow color which i think must be some sort of neoprene ,so on with the face mask and ground the nasty s out and re glued the pad with some very strong high heat glue   i must have glued the pad on back to front 0r a little uneven (there is no chance of getting the pad off now) .now i don't get the clearance to put them back in .i might have to shave some of the pad off ? i was looking at my 175 hub which appears to be the same i am pretty sure the shoes on both are ta1 ? maybe i can just steel one off the 175 can this be done ?cheers

The 175/350 brake shoes are physically interchangeable.  Someone mentioned on here once that the 350 shoes were a better material, but you can't see the difference.  Both are marked TA1.

Ok, now you've got me curious. If both are physically interchangeable and both are marked TA1 and you can't see the difference in material, how does one tell them apart?  ???

maybe its just  8000 or 9000 printed on the bag which might mean the 350 set might cost more to buy back in the day?
hey Steve mine were not that bad .i ended up using the old shoe grinding it back a little there is still a raised section on the liner that makes the wheel slightly stiff to turn this might were out but seeing that its only going to get pushed about for a few weeks i am not greatly concerned about it locking up which i don't think it would do anyway

i will try to post some pictures of next weeks  vintage Japanese motorcycle show
cheers.

The "TA-1" marking is on the shoe itself and indicates a 175 part.

It would make no sense for Bridgestone to have cast new shoes for the 350 with an "NA-1" marking, as they would be identical to the 175 part.

It does, however, make sense for Bridgestone to use the basic 175 shoe castings and fit them with different lining material for the 350.

There are plenty of other 175 and even 90 parts used on the 350 without changing their part number, so I don't think the factory would have changed the brake shoe to a "-9000" number just for the sake of it.
