Well, if you read my introduction post, you'll know that the bike below was mine 26 years ago, and my son and I are in the process of restoring it after just buying it back a couple months ago.  It's now down to frame, and I just put in my first parts order with Richard.  It's really rough, but it'll get there.

To all you experienced restorers, what have you found to be good paint matches for the various bits on these machines?  Do these have a cross-referenced color code?  Obviously I'm thinking of things like body paint (green metallic and the mint green underneath it on the tank and the tank top stripe) as well as the various silver colors on the headlight bucket, fork legs, drum brakes, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Looks pretty good like it's all there except for those custom rear foot pegs ;D

Yes, I shook my head when I saw those "custom" footpegs.  Like some picture in one of those "There, I fixed it" emails.  Or maybe "The cars of WalMart."  ;D

I'd be afraid they would hang on a stump or somethin ;D. I think it's great you and your son can work on your old bike. I know he'll enjoy it. My youngest son is named Maverick, and that he is ;D

Thanks Steve,
I'm sure I'll be picking your brain for lots of good advice.

So regarding the paint colors, is it just a matter of getting someone to match?  Didn't know if there were any codes I could use to make it easier.

Mine didnt look quite that rusty after 35 years in a barn but it was in the same category. I have since repainted the front forks after replacing the seals.
Still warming up in the photo, hence the smoke. Runs great, never rebuilt. Painted the chrome exhaust and aircleaner black to save on rechroming. Its a driver not a show bike.
Various rusty bits abound but my 13 year old sure enjoys it.

Yeah, it's nice... I saw your pic a month or so ago in one of your posts as I was browsing the site.  I love when they're revived after many years. Good on you for doing it!

I struggled with how far to go on mine, as I plan for my son to learn to ride on it -- so mine won't be "show" quality either, but it will end up nicer than it probably should be!  With my son putting some "sweat equity" into it himself, I'm hoping he will be gentler to it than otherwise.  ;)
