350 GTR chain question
« on: June 05, 2015, 03:27:58 AM »
Hi guys,

I'm looking to put a new chain on my bs and after searching I found it to be a 525 98 link chain.  My question is:

Will any brand fit or are some brands wider than others?

The reason I ask is when I enquires down my local motorbike store, the conversation drifted to certain models of bike that when replacing the chain some brands are wider and on some models this can cause issues...

I think any 525 will fit. The 350 has quite a bit of room. Most standard 525's will be the same width, but an o-ring chain will probably be slightly wider. If anyone has contrary experience, please post.

All 525 chains have the same roller size, pitch and internal size but as OldSwartout says, the heavy duty 'o' ring chain is wider due mainly to thicker plates.

The standard 525 chain as fitted to the 350 with a split link is 17mm overall width. The 525 heavy duty 'o' ring chain is 19mm overall width. Both will fit without clearance issues.

I know this because I have one of each chain fitted to the two bikes.

To easy, I thought this to be the case. But pays to check before going forward.
